Sex is one of man's most primal driving forces, and the way people express their sexuality has certainly changed throughout the years. The sexual expression of the 1950's was far different than the sexual expression of the Millennial generation, most apparently in the rampant public expression of homosexuality seen today. Why then was homosexuality so apparently scarce in the society of the 1950's? Were there just fewer homosexuals or were the homosexuals of the time just less public about their sexual attractions?
Aside from the obvious issue of homosexuality, one other stunningly simply issue seems to have changed with the times. Sex itself. When did it happen, before marriage or after? And were members of the 50's generation really more chaste than the members of the Millennial generation, or did it just appear that way?
Sex certainly surrounds the youth of today, whether it is on the internet, or on a television commercial, and this could certainly affect the way someone could think about sex and its "proper" place in society. However, the place of sex in society is insignificant without the basic unit of society, the family. Sex is obviously a large part of creating a family, whether it is a stable nuclear family or a single parent household. Sex is vital in creating the family, and therefore vital in how the society of a time forms. The family dictates how society behaves, making sexuality in the family a topic for serious consideration when comparing two generational cultures.
