Corporal punishment or child abuse?
The biggest concern with corporal punishment is the where the line must be drawn to prevent child abuse. In the 1950s, parents basically had free reign to punish their children however they saw fit. Today, there are so many laws in place against corporal punishment that parents are essentially unable to physically punish their children at all. There are pros and cons to both sides of CP, however the main argument in favor of corporal punishment is the end result. Children who were raised in the nuclear era were able to experience a much safer environment, because of lower crime rates and more fear of consequences. Higher levels of respect also made for more well-mannered adults, which, unfortunately, is far less common in today's society. Generally, as the image to the left shows, those who were brought up in the era of corporal punishment would have more respect and self-esteem than to dress and act as a delinquent.
